A Mom is a Mom is a Mom........

As an adoptive parent, I get SO sick & tired of people telling me how "good we are for taking in our girls", or how "they're so lucky", or ask me ridiculous questions like "why didn't their real moms want them?". I even had someone (an adult, mind you) ask me if Sophie knew karate when she came home at 13 months of age. What?!?!?!? How stupid can a person be? Now I ask you, would ANYBODY say those kinds of things to a woman who gave birth to her kids? I think not!

I am typically very nice to people who ask me such rude questions or make such ridiculous remarks because I always assume that they're too ignorant to know better, but no more.....

Be forewarned world----- the next person who utters a peep of some rude or insensitive adoption remark will be laid out cold. Yes, that's right. I will put the smack down on them. Maybe I would never actually hit someone, but I am not too decent to be an utter bi@#h! Got it? Good!

Natural Child: a child who's not artificial
Real Parent: a parent who's not imaginary
Your Own Child: a child who doesn't belong to someone else
Adopted Child: a natural child, with a real parent, who's all my own

Love it!!! You go girl!!

I've had the same silly questions - the latest being a couple of weeks ago when I was in the supermarket, a lady asked me a question about a product and after that conversation was finished she looked at Khye and said, so where are you from? Khye didn't realise and automatically said Thailand.

I gave no indication that he was adopted but I said his father was Thai. I would see that she wanted more info but she wasn't getting any from me!

Wyndee, I am going private again with my blog so I will send you an invite. Can you email me Wendy's email address and I will send an invite to her also.

It's funny though, since I live in SA I don't get these questions anymore, in the Netherlands I didn't either get these. But in the US there is no question not have been asked. People are more curious I guess...

Yea, I recently lost it when someone said they were going to buy our son a massage chair and a manicure set so he could do nails with all the other "vietnamese" men. People are crazy and I am no longer being nice or polite about anything.

You know I love you even though you totally ripped off the spirit of my post from a couple of weeks ago, though I don't think mine tended toward violence. Thank God you've stopped hiding behind all that charming "dang" mid-Western stuff, because I know the REAL you and you scare the crap out of me. Let it out, girl!

Well said!!! I had someone ask me a bunch of dumb questions about Ruby at the mall one day. She actually asked me if she came with a name! I wanted to say, she's not a Cabbage Patch Doll lady! Instead, I just said yes, she has a name. It's Ruby.... and then I walked away. People are just stupid sometimes!
